If elected as representative of the Cebu Second District, Cebu Vice Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III will work to improve the facilities and services of district hospitals in Argao and Oslob.
Other key priorities of the candidate for the 2nd district House seat are:
- File legislation to increase discounts for senior citizens to 50% from the existing 20%
- Institutionalize via legislation the Farmer Scientist Training Program or FSTP, which was started by his uncle, National Scientist Dr. Romulo Davide. He will then tap the support of the Department of Agriculture and National Irrigation Administration to help farmers in the district.
- Set up a congressional district office in Argao and satellite offices in the other towns in the district.
- Set up a TESDA training center in Argao for livelihood training of second district constituents.
- Help in the establishment of a Cebu Normal University campus in Argao. The bill for it is pending in Congress and if it isn’t passed in the current Congress, he will work for its passage. He also pledged to provide legislative support for education projects such as the putting up of a community college.
Davide said he would immediately go to the Department of Health and the Department of Budget and Management to allocate more resources to the two district hospitals.
“When I was governor, health was my priority. It will be a priority if I am elected congressman of the 2nd district,” Davide said in a recent interview with Cebu bloggers.
Davide was awarded “Champion for Health” by the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) and the DOH for his healthcare programs and projects.
Davide said he would work to make sure the district hospitals will have enough medicines and vaccines. He said he will also work for the district hospitals to be adequately equipped with medical equipment, including for outpatient laboratory services.
When the district hospitals are improved, residents in the district no longer needed to be brought to the Carcar Provincial Hospital or to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Davide has been in public service since 2004. He worked at the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas before he went into private law practice. His more than two decades in public service started when he was recruited by BO-PK to run for the City Council.
