A festive street dance, mango picking activity, and a “mangopreneurs” bazaar will be among the highlights of the first full-scale Cebu Mangoes Festival at The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City from May 25-26, 2019.

Mangoes have been known as one of the trademarks of Cebu, which even used to have a Mango Avenue, and the two-day festivity celebrates the potential and success of this top island produce.

“We are happy to get this celebration underway here in Lapu-Lapu City as we pay tribute to the mangoes of Cebu that the world has come to love,” said Megaworld Cebu Properties, Inc. President Noli D. Hernandez. The Cebu Mangoes Festival is spearheaded by Megaworld Corporation in partnership with the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Office.

Mango picking at Mactan Newtown

The Mactan Newtown is a special township that features a main avenue lined with 248 mango trees and it is inviting people to join the whole day fruit picking activity on the first day of the festival. They get their fruits straight from the tree and pay only 80 pesos for every kilo of mangoes picked.

Megaworld looks at highlighting what a place is known for when it builds communities and it has been the vision of company chairman Dr. Andrew L. Tan to showcase the mangoes of Cebu in the Lapu-Lapu City township development.

Hernandez said he associates mango picking with a celebration of summer because it was a popular activity while he was growing up. Megaworld wants Cebuanos to experience again the thrill and fun of picking mangoes.

Cebu Mangoes Festival activities

Tourists and guests will have their fill of mangoes during the two-day event. Lapu-Lapu City’s Kadaugan Dancers will open festivities with street dancing that will feature the official mango dance with an original soundtrack.
