Rama also wants a 50,000-seater grandstand, much bigger than the current venue at the Cebu City Sports Center which can comfortably seat 8,000, but could be packed up to 10,000.

“There will be seats for free and there will be some for a fee. It all depends on how it will be arranged. I think it’s about time to transfer because of the number of people that are coming for the Sinulog.”

Work on BRT to start this year

Construction work on the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will start by the end of the year. First phase of the P10.6-billion project will start on Osmeña Blvd since this area will not require purchasing land, said BRT project manager Atty. Rafael Christopher Yap.

Yap said the detailed engineering design for the project is about to be completed. He said, however, that they will need to apply for an exemption from the election ban on projects in order to move on with the work.

Construction of bus stops, stations and other civil works as well as the selection of the system manager and bidding and awarding of service contracts will be completed in the next two years, Sun.Star Cebu reported.

“The year 2015 was a year of development while 2016 will be a year of implementation.”
Atty. Rafael Christopher Yap, BRT project manager

The first phase of the BRT project will cover the Bulacao to Ayala Center Cebu route. The second phase will cover the area from Ayala to Talamban.
