Homeschool Global Visayas presents Broadway Youth Cebu’s Summer 2023 Musical Theatre Workshop production of the global hit musical “We Will Rock You” on July 21, 22 and 23, 2023 at the Siddhartha Theatre, Guang Ming College.
After a three year hiatus, Broadway Youth Cebu, the recipient of BroadwayWorld Philippines Theatre Company of the Decade, conducted its 2023 Summer Musical Theatre Workshop and will now present its culminating event – the staging of WE WILL ROCK YOU young@part, on July 21, 22 and 23, 2023 at the Siddhartha Theatre.
“We Will Rock You” young@part is the author-approved, licensed adaptation of this musical performed entirely by young Cebuano students. This musical, which took the West End and the rest of the world by storm, features 18 of Queen’s greatest hits alongside a hilarious script written by British playwright Ben Elton.
Set in a dystopian future where rock music has been banned by the evil Killer Queen, two rebels – Galileo Figaro and Scaramouche – go on a journey to lead the Bohemians into reclaiming rock music and celebrating it. Songs featured include “Radio Gaga”, “I Want To Break Free”, “Somebody To Love”, “Under Pressure”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Headlong”, and of course “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Since its inception in 2017, Broadway Youth Cebu has always been committed to the development of young Cebuano talent in preparation for possible opportunities on the global stage. It aims to fulfill this mission through its Summer Musical Theatre workshop project, which is the first of its kind in Cebu. Led by Hong Kong-based Cebuano theater director and teacher Allan Nazareno, and Cebu based theater director Rudy Aviles, BYC is headed by a creative team of theater practitioners in Cebu, namely production manager Rhodamie Chan, choreographer Alfie Mosqueda voice coach Fitz Galenzoga, acting coach Everild Catugal, and stage manager Clariza Mae Sevilla.
WE WILL ROCK YOU features an all Cebuano teen cast rocking it out to the greatest hits from the Queen catalogue. Fans of 80s music will certainly be in for a treat as these familiar songs are now performed by a young Cebuano cast. The show will have 4 performances – Friday, July 21 at 7PM; Saturday, July 22 at 3PM and 7PM; and Sunday, July 23 at 3PM at the Siddhartha Theatre, Guang Ming College at V Rama Avenue.
